Arcade Controller

Over the past weeks, my class and I have been working on making arcade controllers for our CSAI game. When I first heard about this I was super excited to start, but as we got into it a bit I was super confused since I was online for two of the weeks, but Mr. Dembo was super helpful and made it easy to understand what to do. So for this project we took our lastest CSAI game, mine was a constituation maze game, and downloaded it to a microbit. Then we had to cut out five or six holes in a box to fit our buttons in. After that, we had to connect all wires together and then get those wires connected to a PI. The part where we had to connect the wires to the PI was very confusing to me because I was online for part of it, but when I got back to school I got the hang of it after a while. My constituation maze game is about a deleget trying to make it to the end of the maze by answering three questions right. After I finished putting my buttons into the holes in the box, and attaching all the wires, I realized I put the buttons in wrong! But in the end I made it work so it was all okay. Last week I colored over my box with acrylics, I made it into a sunset colored theme. So in the end I was pretty proud of myself because in my opinon the box turned out really good! I cant wait until our next project!

Constitution Maze Game

For this CSAI challenge, we had to create a maze game. I had so much fun with this challenge and cant wait for the next project. My theme for the maze game was about the Constitution. I choose that theme because we were studying the Constitution in LASS class and it really interested me. In my game, the object is to get all of the question correct and make it to the end to become president. There are three question in the game and they are about the constitution. My biggest challenge creating this was to find out how to ask the questions during the game. The way I solved that problem was asking my friends for help and having my teacher help me, but also trying to figure out by myself. From this experience I learned how to make your own map, and have the code ask questions during the game. If there was anything I could do I would have probably added more questions. If I were to start again tomorrow I would probably do the same thing but just add more questions and make the map bigger. There is no score for my game, for my game you just try and get the questions correct and get to the end. At first I had some trouble coming up with what I could do with the topic about the Constitution but then I thought of asking questions to the person playing the game. I had so much fun creating this game and cant wait till the next one!

Chasing Duck

For my project, I made a game where there is a duck trying to chase a piece of pizza. The duck has 1.8 seconds to try and catch the pizza, and if it doesn’t, you lose and have to start over. But if the duck does catch the pizza, your score goes up by one, and the timer resets to 1.8 seconds. There is also a melody playing in the background. My high score was 42. I had lots of fun creating my project, but I also had lots of challenges along the way. One of the biggest challenges I had was trying to figure out had to add an enemy into the game once the score reaches 10 and if you run into it your score goes up by 5, and then it disappears. I tried so many times to try and make it happen, but I could not get it in the end. If we ever create another project, that will be one of my goals to complete first. I learned quite a lot from this project too. I learned how to code a duck to move around, and I learned how to code the pizza to make it move around once the duck runs into it. Going into this, I wasn’t that excited to make a game, but in the end, I loved it so much, and I can’t wait to make another one!

About me

My name is Grace Brown, I am in 8th grade, and I go to a private school in Palatine called Quest Academy. I play softball and basketball, and I played the saxophone. My favorite thing to do is to practice softball, go boating with my friends, and to bake. I am going to Carmel Catholic High school in Mundeline. I have two brothers, one goes to Carmel, and ones goes to the college Notre Dame. I have one dog that is named Bolt, and he is a Labrador Retriever. I love CSAI because we get to invent, and code so many things. I can’t wait to write more blogs!
